The Hopkins County Emergency Management Director has the responsibilities for the day-to-day emergency management programs. The Emergency Management Office cooperates with a comprehensive network of local, state, and federal Emergency Management personnel; governmental agencies, law enforcement, fire, ambulance, and other emergency personnel; private businesses; voluntary organizations; and individuals to identify potential hazards, to develop emergency plans for each potential natural and technological hazard and to apply the four phases of Emergency Management: mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

This rapid emergency notification service is called Hopkins County Alert. The new system will distribute emergency messages via telephone to targeted areas or the entire county at a rate of 1,000 calls per minute. Hopkins County Alert employs a one-of-a-kind Internet mapping capability for geographic targeting of calls, coupled with a high speed telephone calling system capable of delivering customized pre-recorded emergency messages directly to homes and businesses, live individuals and answering machines.
