Industry of The Month: B&K Wood Products, LLC
The Madisonville/Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation announced today that B & K Wood Products LLC, with operations on Sawmill Road, has been named Industry of the Month for July in the Economic Development Corporation’s program for enhanced focus on Existing Industry.
Founded in 1955 by current GM Jordan Baize’s great grandfather, B & K produces a wealth of wood products including hardwood lumber, standard stock, cross ties, crane mats, firewood, wood fiber, and much more. Firewood in particular has become a growth product, and they are quickly becoming America’s largest producer of commercial wood fuel. In 2010, B & K was awarded Wood-Mizer’s International Business Best Award.
An expansion project announced July 8th, involves a $1.2 million investment in the community that will create 39 jobs. B & K is purchasing the former KI building on Commerce Drive to produce, manufacture, and store firewood for large retail customers. When the firewood project comes to fruition, B & K will employ over 160 citizens in the community.
