Hopkins County Government is proud to support the Historical Society of Hopkins County in its mission to preserve and share local and regional history for future generations. The Historical Society publishes an annual yearbook and offers educational and historic programming to the public. The society meets monthly at Government Center.
The Historical Society operates a museum in its headquarters at 107 Union Street in the building that once housed the first county library. Exhibits include coal industry and political history memorabilia as well as a rare original 1910 Buick Buggybout. You can also tour the cabin where Kentucky’s 43rd governor, Ruby Laffoon, was born.
