Hopkins County is unique in that it is a community that offers the security and friendliness of a small town while at the same time it has abundant outdoor recreation opportunities and an outstanding performing and visual arts center. Some attractions include the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts, Western Kentucky Speedway, Downtown Dawson Springs, Ruby Laffoon Cabin, Dawson Springs Museum and Art Center, Anne P. Baker Gallery, Hopkins County Historical Society, Historic Downtown Hanson, Downtown Madisonville, Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park, and Riverside Park. Hopkins County is a “great place to be” and is located in a charming nook of Western Kentucky.

Within the last three years, the County has purchased and installed 14 emergency warning sirens that have been installed throughout the county and the county has installed a “One Call” emergency notification system. The service is free to anyone from Hopkins County who wants to subscribe. One Call will be made for emergency weather or other emergency purposes to local telephone numbers. The Emergency System cannot reach Cell Phone Numbers. If you would like to receive the call on your cell phone or sign-up your home phone - follow these simple steps: To the left click on the link “Emergency One Call System”. · The Eddie Ballard Agriculture and Convention Center is one of the latest projects to recently open. The center is located at the Hopkins County Fair Grounds. It was named after Rep. Eddie Ballard who is retiring from the state house next year. Judge Executive, Donald E. Carroll said Ballard was able to obtain over $2 million dollars in coal severance funds to build the complex. County officials are hoping the new facility will bring in more revenue to the county.
· The Sports Complex is being developed on the south end of the city of Madisonville in the Grapevine area. Ground breaking was held in 2008 and since then, the complex has seen a donation from the Madisonville Rotary Club.
· The New Judicial Center will front East Center Street and be located between Madisonville Fire Station #1 and the First United Methodist Church. It will contain five courtrooms, two for circuit court, two for district court, and 1 family courtroom. The new facility will be more secure than the current courthouse.
